Business Consultant

NavPoint is currently seeking a Business Consultant for a federal government client. This is a 70 day contract from February 1, 2016 – December 31, 2016.

The successful resource will:

• Work collaboratively to provide critical analysis, objective insight and recommendations for engagement strategies in support of Commander’s objectives;
• Assess the organization’s capacity/capability to undertake and successfully deliver an initiative or change;
• Prepare the Commander for conferences with key Canadian and foreign military and civilian leaders by researching the topics to be discussed and pre-briefing the Commander or their delegate no later than two (2) days prior to the event;
• Collaborate with stakeholders to develop a comprehensive understanding of and common approach to assigned tasks and projects;
• Examine the link between the goals of the organization and how the work is performed to achieve those objectives at strategic and operational levels;
• Identify and prepare business development plans to facilitate organizational objectives, policies, and standards;
• Identify and provide recommendations to Senior leadership on potential hindrances affecting the successful outcome of the organization’s business objectives;
• Perform Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis;
• Develop and manage the implementation of an organizational improvement plan to identify, analyze, plan, track and control organizational improvements on a continuous basis;
• Assist in the development of Mission and Vision Statements;
• Collect and analyze information and present findings on complex issues identified by senior Leadership;
• Implement and evaluate cross-functional decisions that will enable to achieve its objectives.

The qualified candidate must have:

• Secret Security Clearance;
• Experience providing direct strategic support to Senior Management;
• Two years of experience preparing and reviewing documents related to the Canadian Armed Forces and/or Federal Government departments including: Strategic Business Plans; Briefing notes and Strategic documentation aimed for ministerial levels;
• Two years of experience using all of the following Microsoft application programs: MS Outlook; MS Word; MS Excel; MS PowerPoint.
• Ability to provide critical analysis support to senior leadership staff, facilitating staff cohesion, and elevating the quality of analysis surrounding complex issues as an advisor or leader. This must be demonstrated by providing detailed examples and a description of tasks which called for the aforementioned qualities along with creativity, innovation, and teamwork.
• The ideal candidate should have successfully completed post graduate studies related to military strategies.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following deliverables:
• Requirements documentation, briefs, notes, plans, and reports;
• Presentations and project related documentation;
• Agenda and minutes for meetings and conferences; and
• Visit reports for all travel that occurs.

Intermediate Project Planner

NavPoint is currently seeking a Project Planner for a federal government client. This is a three (3) year contract.

The successful resource will:

• Have extensive knowledge of Microsoft Project to assist Project Managers and Senior Management with project scheduling and to oversee project implementation plans;
• Support PMs and Senior Management with project scheduling activities related to multiple projects across multiple sectors;
• Develop all MS Project schedules to ensure that dependencies are identified and integration is achieved in accordance with the project implementation schedule;
• Promote the implementation of proper project management processes (management of scope, time, costs, schedule, risks, critical paths, communications and stakeholder engagement) to achieve the targeted outcomes;
• Track all project activities using WBS's and project schedules to ensure all project changes are accurately reflected in the scheudles, but also assess impacts on various project timelines, scope and budgets;
• Monitor critical paths;
• Deliver high-level and detailed project schedules at corporate project level;
• MS Project configuration and customization;
• Scheduling processes, procedures and guidelines.

The qualified candidate must have:

• Secret Security Clearance;
• 5 years of experience as a Project Planner;
• 2 years of experience planning projects in the Government of Canada;
• Experience developing and maintaining complex and integrated schedules using Microsoft Project or Project Server.
• Experience preparing reports for Senior Project Managers about the current work progress and make comparison between plan and progress, determine impact and propose alternative approaches to work;
• Experience linking operational with consolidated high level schedules and ensuring that linkages are properly updated;
• Experience developing and producing high level network diagrams for high level schedules;
• Experience documenting complex process flows, diagrams and swim lanes;
• Experience developing project status and dashboard reports using various tools within the MS Office Suite of tools;
• Experience developing presentations;
• Experience developing WBS;
• Experience monitoring critical activities and critical path activities based on the project schedule;
• Experience advising Project Managers of potential slippage in schedules and anticipating impact to the critical path.

Senior Project Manager (MS Project)

NavPoint is currently seeking a Project Manager for a federal government client. This is a three (3) year contract.

The successful resource will:

• Assist Senior Management with the management and implementation of projects that will enhance the agency’s core programs and service offering;
• Manage medium to large and inter-disciplinary projects across various sectors to achieve project implementation strategy;
• Develop and prepare project management and lifcycle documentation;
• Provide effective consultation, communication, and engagement of stakeholders;
• Provide project management support, reporting and strategic advice to the Project Director and Senior Management;
• Oversee the development of project plans and critical paths to schedule and manage tasks and milestones;
• Oversee the development of risk assessments and recommend applicable courses of action to mitigate them and increase success factors;
• Work collaboratively with other PMs and Senior Management to ensure that all projects are managed with a coherent approach.

The qualified candidate must have:

• A Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification in good standing;
• Secret Security Clearance;
• Ten (10) years experience as a Project Manager, with 2 years experience managing projects in the Government of Canada;
• Three (3) years of experience using Microsoft Project or Project Server;
• Experience managing projects during the development, implementation and/or operations start-up;
• Exercised budget forecasting, tracking and control through all stages of a project lifecycle;
• Experience developing: SOW, Project Feasibility Docs, Business Cases, Project Charters and Status Reports;
• Experience developing, implementing and documenting: PM Governance, Work progress flow diagrams, Frameworks, Reporting vehicles;
• Experience in project performance relating to: making recommendations to senior management, developing presentations and managing communications to stakeholders.
